Figures are the median weekly rent on new tenancy bonds lodged with MBIE Tenancy Services, by dwelling type and bedroom count. These are signed rents, not asking prices. Low-sample cells are suppressed under MBIE's reliability rule and counts are randomly rounded, so treat them as indicative.
How we calculate this
We ingest MBIE's official Market Rent statistics, which are drawn from every bond lodged with Tenancy Services. Because a bond is lodged for essentially every new tenancy, this is the most complete rent dataset in New Zealand, and it reflects rents that were actually agreed rather than what a listing asked for. We refresh it monthly.
